While crawling through the very little information I could find on the internet about the Buffalo River (TN) I happened upon this message board. I was happy to see a forum for people to share experiences and ideas but surprised to see its not getting much use...especially since we are on the cusp of the season. I have already made one paddling trip (BSF) this year and getting ready for my next to the Buffalo. I have paddled the Buffalo for many years and look forward my annual pilgrimage back to reconnect and recharge. Just wanted to introduce myself and incourage all of those lurking to jump in; the waters great! ;D
By the way... does anyone know water conditions between Metal Ford and the Confluence of the Little Buffalo?

Gotta love paddling during week. I'll be ending a 13 day float on the 28th. My first paddle of the Buffalo stem to stern. Getting anxious! Week from today!

That would be an awesome trip on the Buffalo.. It's over 100 miles isn't it ?
Where will your put-in & take-out be ?
From what I have read in Holly Sherwin's book (Canoeing in Tennessee) it gets too low to float around Metal Ford after May.. But I don't know from personal experience.
I do know that some peoples opinion on 'too low to float' can vary quite a bit from others though. I think some people consider it too low if you have to drag the boat over a shallow spot even one time. Personally I just want to ride more than I walk..

Its starting to dry up a bit... had a great spring and water levels were up accross the state but have now dropped. I expect low water the first couple of days of this particular trip but praying for a good system of rain to come through this weekend. The USGS gaging station just beyond half way has dropped below 3ft for the first time this year which is below average. At the end of the day Im committed to the trip so guess it really doesn't matter what the levels are. Good sturdy drag rope and lots of carbs
