I am working on updating my website. I will add the piney when I can. I have had my site on geocities since 1998, but found out recently that geocities is closing down. I hope I can freshen it up some.

my good friend sonny, who was always the first to arrive at the buffalo for our trips and floated the harpeth regularly, died last week.
I am very very sad.

HELP, years ago we used to canoe down there on the buffalo at flatwoods. seems as you come into flatwoods there was an old store on the left and then you took a right down a gravel road to a place called buffalo river canoe rental. we then would be driven down the river and let out at the bridge. we could canoe for 10-11 miles and get out or go on 4-5 miles more through pretty scenery but still and boring water. does this sound familiar to you? help I am trying to go to the same place or at least float the same trip. we found another rental place but they put you on the buffalo river as soon as you go under intersate 40 about 40 miles north of where we always canoed. i would love some help getting a trip planned for this saturday with 3-4 kayaks and 6-9 canoes. any suggestions and or help is appreciated. dp I found your post on the message board, and I realize it might be too late but I thought I'd put in my two cents anyway. The old store on your left that you described is Flatwoods Canoe Base - Route 4, Box 612B Flatwoods, TN 37096. 931-589-5661 Nice folks here. Buffalo River Canoe Rental is closed last I heard although there are more than enough outfitters around Flatwoods to take up the slack. There is Crazy Horse Canoe Rental and RV Park, Waynesboro, TN. 931-722-5213. They offer a campground, restaurant, store, bathhouse and fishing. Open April through October. And Clearwater Canoe Rental, 2505 Waynesboro Hwy Waynesboro, Tennessee 38485 (800) 260-5195 or 931-722-3081 Both of these are located right at the Bell Bridge (that's the put-in you describe) and they take out at Slink Shoals, which is the 10 mile take out at the blue rock. Buffalo Buds is right at slink shoals and his number is 931-215-8445 It is very crowded now and I don't go anywhere near that area on a holiday weekend. I don't know how crowded it is on a regular weekend. Many more listings at geocities.com/buffalorivercanoe/tnoutdoors/canoetn.htm

Can all the spam crap on this thread be deleted and the member names banned ? Thanks for hosting this forum .. Terry I am working on deleting them but cannot ban them because they post as as 'guest' and use a different name each time. Maybe I can set the board so that unregistered 'guests' have to be moderated. I hate to do that because sometimes people want to throw and opinion in but dont want to be bothered to register. I'll do the best I can to eliminate the BS posts.

BTW....whats with all the cryptic text? Can the moderator/admin do anything about that wasted bandwidth? Hi, I'm working on it. the ones that actually register and use the same name I can delete all at once, the ones that post as a 'guest' with a different name each time have to be deleted one at a time.

That's crazy!! There are spots that can be dangerous, but most spills just end up being funny!

I've been canoeing the buffalo at flatwoods since 1983. When we first started making this trip, the river was relatively empty of other boats, Slink Shoals was owned by Mike Ashton (Buffalo River Canoe Rental) and was a lovely, quiet, uncrowded camping area. We never, ever saw any kind of police, sheriff dept, twra - no one.
It is a lot different now, to be sure. There are officers hiding in the woods along the river (I don't know about up in the trees, but they are definitely hiding behind the trees) ready to step out if they see you littering, smoking etc. The first time we encountered the officers was about 1994 or 95. They stepped out to stop someone who was smoking pot while floating down the river. There weren't many t hen, but they were there. It is a very different place now, slink shoals is RUINED (when buddy baldwin aka Buffalo Buds) bought the shoal it went downhill FAST. He was just out to make a buck and before long the place was very very VERY overcrowded, TRASHED (I've got pics) and well, just ruined. The campers are loud, rude and very very trashy (littering). The river is so crowded with boats that you pretty much play bumper-boats all the way down. The sheriffs dept just sits around Slink Shoals now, waiting and watching. They even bring dogs down there, I've seen them. My group doesn't go anywhere near Slink Shoals anymore, (except a quick drive through for old times) we found another quieter shoal to visit. It isn't that far, the river is not crowded and there are usually only 2 or 3 other campsites on the shady green grassy bottomland we camp on. It is perfect.
