It depends on where you are located. Right now the water in most of the creeks is very low, That is good and bad, good for a begginer shallow and easy to paddle might have to get out in some shallow places. The Harpeth, Duck And Buffalo are all good places to start and have canoe and kayaks for rent.

I think the buffalo is more challenging when the water is lower. When it is up, you float right over most of the snags and trees and stuff that you have to negotiate when the water is lower. I cannot speak of the others mentioned though.

Cindy is right about haveing to get around all the rocks and snags at low water levels. I have been on the Harpeth when it was at flood stage and higher and it was wide fast and flat, Not much challenge.
