I have not paddled Jones CK. But do drive by it regular, Its not far from the house. It is about half the size of the Harpeth and if you don't get on it in early spring or after a good rain you can count on a lot of walking it is very shallow and narrow with very few deep holes.
I agree Patty's book is a excellent book and I have paddled a couple of the places she recommends and found things to be just as she described. Dennis

Terry you can count me in. I have the same problem, alot of places to go but know one around to go with. Most of the time I take my touring kayak out to the lake. Dennis

You might want to look in to Reel foot lake. I think there is a camp ground there and it is supposed to have some nice sencery and good fishing. Or pick up a book called Canoeing in Tennessee by Holly Sherwin it has a lot of good info places to paddle.

Cindy is right about haveing to get around all the rocks and snags at low water levels. I have been on the Harpeth when it was at flood stage and higher and it was wide fast and flat, Not much challenge.

It depends on where you are located. Right now the water in most of the creeks is very low, That is good and bad, good for a begginer shallow and easy to paddle might have to get out in some shallow places. The Harpeth, Duck And Buffalo are all good places to start and have canoe and kayaks for rent.

It was a great weekend. 2 canoes and 5 kayaks in pur group. saturday was a great day for paddling the sun was out the wind was just enough to keep you from getting to hot. there were a few other paddlers but not crowde at all. One of the ladies in a canoe even caught a couple trout. The trip started at the Cortner mill dam and went down river to the Cortner Rd bridge.
