Jack -
Thats funny.. small world isn't it.
I'm looking forward to my Ozark trip too. People have been telling me for years I should go check out the Current, so I'll get tot see before long.
I'm guessing you have been to the spring rendezvous before ?

I know of a nice creek with very clear water that we canoe/kayak close to Kentucky Lake (Danville area) if you have your own tubes, which would probaly be closer for ya than the Buffalo.
I've seen people float a 3 mile section of it on tubes earlier in the year but I'm not sure if there would be enough water this late in the year.
If you are interested drop me an e-mail and I'll give you directions so you can go take a look.

Never did stay the night on the river, wound up camping at Montgomery Bell State Park and floating 2 day trips. Montgomery Bell is pretty close and has a nice campground so it makes for a nice trip. $20 a night with elec. & water or $10 if you are a state employee like myself.. Terry

Clearwater's sites are up on top of the bank in front of the store/office.
Crazyhorses's are back further from the water and more spread out.

Sorry about the delay in replying, have'nt been able to visit here in a bit..
The Hidden Lake canoe access on the Harpeth is next to the McCrory Lane Bridge at #3 on the map above. The parking lot is very close to the bridge and has a sign, so you can't miss it. Good access and plenty of parking.
Haven't ever floated the Ghost, sorry..

It's not 'police' - it is TWRA officers. I don't know if they are actually hiding in trees, but I personally know people who got tickets and/or had to appear in court for underage drinking, smoking marjuana (possesion) and littering. If you have a cooler full of drinks, you better have a garbage bag to put empties in cause they will check if they stop you. I'm glad they are trying to clean it up.. I don't mind the party crowd as long as they aren't disturbing everyone elses time on the river, btu the people who are too lazy to keepup with their garbage don't deserve to be there in the first place and deserve any ticket they get.

I know this reply is too late, but for future reference Crazy Horse & Clearwater both have electric hook-ups. I prefer Clearwater because the spots are closer to the river..

That would be an awesome trip on the Buffalo.. It's over 100 miles isn't it ?
Where will your put-in & take-out be ?
From what I have read in Holly Sherwin's book (Canoeing in Tennessee) it gets too low to float around Metal Ford after May.. But I don't know from personal experience.
I do know that some peoples opinion on 'too low to float' can vary quite a bit from others though. I think some people consider it too low if you have to drag the boat over a shallow spot even one time. Personally I just want to ride more than I walk..

Thanks for posting about the Piney..
I plan on going soon for my first time and camping at the outfitters place - Pinewood Canoe & Camp.
I learned about the river from the Paddling around Nashville book.
$ 5 shuttle is the cheapest I've ever heard of.
Where did you put in and take-out ?
Thanks -
Terry
